RULES

EGO TOURNAMENT RULES (CALIFORNIA)

Double 6 Domino Tournament

1. Game Setup

  • Each player draws 7 dominoes to begin play. The game starts with the HIGHEST DOUBLE which shall become the Spinner. In the unlikely event a double is not drawn, players should continue the highest domino process by asking for the 6-5, 6-4, etc.

2. Drawing Errors

  • Drawing more or fewer than 7 dominoes will result in a 50-point penalty. If you are accustomed to playing 9 Rock bones, be careful.

3. Spinner and Double Plays

  • The first double played is the official Spinner.
  • If a player plays on a double that is not the first double (i.e., not the Spinner), the opponent may request its removal if no further domino has been played. The offender may remove the play if the opponent has not exposed a domino. (no penalty).
  • If the misplay is not noticed or acknowledged before another domino is played, the play stands.
  • The offended player is not obligated to call out the misplay; they may choose to accept it and continue, or request correction.

4. Misplay of a Domino

  • Any misplay is governed by the procedure in Rule #3.

5. Locked Game

  • If a player’s move will lock the game, the player must announce:
“This play will lock the game or cause the game to be locked. I will start the next hand with a domino of my choice according to Rule #5. Thank you!”
  • If no announcement is made, the next hand starts with the Double 6 or the highest double available.
  • No announcement is required if the play made by the person locking the game is the last play of the hand. He still starts the next hand with a domino of choice. This is seen as a reward for being strategic.
  • Who wins the lockdown has no implication on this rule.

6. Exposed Dominoes

  • There is no penalty for exposing your dominoes (you will be penalized for exposing yourself). Players may turn up any or all of their dominoes at any time.

7. Drawing from the Boneyard

  • When drawing from the boneyard, if you find a playable domino, you MUST turn it face up if you are contemplating where to play it.
  • Do not hide it among your un-played dominoes. Doing so results in a 50-point penalty.

8. Winning Domino from the Boneyard

  • If you draw the winning domino from the boneyard, you must turn up your remaining dominoes for verification.
  • Failure to do so, if it’s impossible to verify your un-played dominoes, results in a 100-point penalty.

9. Passing with a Playable Domino

* If you pass or draw from the boneyard when you actually have a playable domino, you shall incur a 75-point penalty.

10. Tie Breaker

  • If there is a tie when determining the players for the playoffs, the winner of the head to head match between the players shall be deemed the winner. If there was no head to head match, a sudden death match of a 150-point game shall be played.

11. Rule Amendments

  • These rules may be updated prior to August 1, 2025. Please review the rules again before the tournament date.
  • The rules will be reviewed
at the beginning of the tournament.

Good luck and enjoy the game!
